A `!node`! (also called a `!peer`!) is an `F0af`_`[instance`:/page/wiki.mu`path=Instance]`_`f of `F0af`_`[Reticulum`:/page/wiki.mu`path=Reticulum_Protocol]`_`f that is connected to a Reticulum network.

Nodes can send and receive `F0af`_`[packets`:/page/wiki.mu`path=Packet]`_`f, establish `F0af`_`[links`:/page/wiki.mu`path=Link]`_`f, and create `F0af`_`[destinations`:/page/wiki.mu`path=Destination]`_`f that become reachable by other nodes on the network.

Any node can be configured to also become a `F0af`_`[transport node`:/page/wiki.mu`path=Transport_node]`_`f and/or `F0af`_`[LXMF`:/page/wiki.mu`path=LXMF]`_`f `F0af`_`[propagation node`:/page/wiki.mu`path=Propagation_node]`_`f. By default, nodes are only regular instances, being the appropriate mode for end-user devices that primarily consume network services.

In `F0af`_`[NomadNet`:/page/wiki.mu`path=NomadNet]`_`f, `!node`! refers to an instance of the NomadNet application that is visible to other peers on the network, serving pages and files. `!Peer`! refers to a user on NomadNet, the default name being `*Anonymous Peer`*.
